An award winning photographer...

In my short photography career I've come across many photographers and many websites. In this process, I have found many 'award winning photographers'. And when I did, I always wondered if ever any of my pictures would indeed win an award. Well, it turns out that to end the year on a high note, I have! And not only one image, but four.

This is all very exciting... and even though so far I have felt quite comfortable with my work, independent of what anybody else had to say, I have to admit, I feel a great deal of comfort that anyone else besides myself, finds my work interesting, profound, esthetically pleasing, or simply worthy of an award.

Tonight it's the opening of the juried exhibition including 35 Souther California photographers, at the Julia Dean Gallery and among them will be four of my images that got selected.

I have a profound appreciation for this possibility, as well as for those of you, out there, who have over and over gone far out of your way to support me. Thank you!

Lost Girl 1. 'Traveler' that I met in the streets of Portland, OR. It's been several years since she left her life as we are used to knowing life. She cannot longer sleep under a roof, anxiety keeps her up until she moves outside under the black sky, the moon and ideally, the railroad tracks.

The Tube. London life as seen in the Tube.

Nepal Buddhist Door. Annapurna Circuit Trek, Buddhist Temple in Marpha.

Indifference. Kid and his dog on a remote location in Gran Sabana, Venezuela.

Share the LOVE!

For a while now I have been working on this concept of free eCards. In my experience they are a great way to share love, gratitude or appreciation with those we care for, in the form of Art cards. The way they are designed, you receive an actual electronic postcard with both sides of the card, the image and the text... and what's best, they are for you to keep and cherish at any time. They are NOT a link that will expire in 90 days, and with it the memories of those who wrote to you...

They are my way of sharing my art and my appreciation for you taking the time to come and visit. Uplift those in your life and share the love through an ART card. I have updated the image catalog and you have over 30 images of more diverse topics.

Thanks for visiting and as always, you are welcome!

Yes! You can Search...

Another great outcome of all this changes, is the possibility to upload all my work to a single site, and enable you to browse or search all images by a wide range of criteria.

To do so, you can use the quick 'Search Photo Galleries' box at the bottom of the site, or go into 'Galleries and Prints' and click on 'Search' on the left hand side menu. This will allow for a quite advance search functionality ranging from keywords, images for sale, orientation and other image attributes.

Over the next few weeks I will constantly upload my photographic archive and thoroughly keyword the images to facilitate access.

I am very excited about this new features, and I hope you enjoy them as well! Thanks for visiting and always welcome!

Images for Sale!

One of the main reason I made these changes, is to incroporate a backend support to perform sales over the web. Now you can browse or search in my photography galleries and find images that are for sale. There are some for sale in Fine Art, archival quality limited signed series; there are some that are for sale for commercial purposes in a Rights Managed modality; and finally there are images of some event that ae for sale in high quality prints for those that want to preserve a visual memory.

In any case this is a big step towards evolving my photographic carreer and I wanted to share it with you. As always, thanks for visiting and you are always welcome!

So... why change the website?

Well, the truth is that a lot has changed since www.MartinHSphoto.com first saw the light of day in early 2006. Back then I was looking for a place to share a hobbie with friends and family. I was exploring and to a certain extent, challening my photography to stand the test of being shown.

As I said before, a lot has happened since then. My hobbie continues to grow, and there are now days where I feel that this could be it; days in which the voice inside urges to speak through the lens of my camera; and days in which all starts to make sense.

So this version of my site (v2.5 for those who care to know the inner details) incorporates many new features intended to support the vision of my photography.

First, I incorporated a 'News' section that you will always see on the right hand side of the site. The idea behind it, is to be able to have a more intimate interaction with you, the visitor, and through this, guide you to different areas of the site to share what's new, what I am working on, the story behind the projects or simply new images that I have produced recently.

Along with the News, I added a 'Projects' blog. This time around, I hope to be more consistent and effective in sharing ongoing work and engaging the community. I also intend to share some of the 'behind the scenes' of the images I create.

The e-Cards have also been improved. You provided feedback regarding the the readability of the interface, and you will notice on this version, mayor improvemnts all around in the size and clarity of the text.

Finally, a new backend support to host my photography has been added. This will allow me to provide private galleries for my assignment work (something I have been doing more lately), and also the possibility to sell my work directly online, both in the form of stock photography and fine art prints.

Thanks for taking the time to visit and you are always welcome!
